Survival French lessons tonight...Ok, so French is the official language here in Congo and most people can communicate in French along with 2-3 major local Congolese languages. I'll have to admit that French is definitely not coming easily for me but our weekly French class is lots of fun anyway. The lesson this week was focused on learning basic words needed for shopping and bargaining in the craziness of the big market or anywhere really. So last week we learned the words and practiced using them as a class, then today we actually drove to the market area, divided into teams and set out to use our new language skills buying 6 different items of fresh produce for the least amount of money possible. My team bargained for bananas, rice, parsley, lemons, an overly ripe avocado and a small bag to carry it all for 650 CFA or about $1.25. The market is always fun time and then the whole class went to a near by restaurant to practice ordering food in French for the total experience. C'est bon!
